Welcome to Lehigh!
Welcome to Lehigh Riding Academy, a prestigious riding academy set in the small, yet bustling town of Lehigh Valley. Founded about 20 years ago by two horse enthusiasts, the academy has made a name for itself as one of the best, but, with the recent retirement of the original founders and the handing of the baton to a totally new head, there is talk that the academy may be up to losing that reputation. Rumors are just rumors, yes, but only time will tell if those rumors will come true...

PostSubject: take my breath away || Jackson   take my breath away || Jackson EmptyTue Dec 30, 2014 1:52 am

Saying that life had been crazy for Ava Keys in the past couple of months might have been a major understatement. Actually, it was not only a few months, but it dated back to her junior year in highschool - that was when all of this chaos had started, and it hadn't stopped yet. She had always been a good student, but it seemed like not every teacher was fine with that. That was how her English teacher, whom she still suspects as not being totally sane, started a real war against her. When her mother and her tried to calm things down, they only became worse, which was why Ava decided to move to a whole different city and go to boarding school. Even though it had been rather fun, even though she had made a couple of friends and her senior year had been quiet and calm, she felt like she couldn't settle down over there. Her heart had remained at home, and she knew that she had to return, because otherwise she would have gone mad. And she did come back, moved back in with her family and started taking music classes at the Academy of Arts.

However, Ava had been an athletic person her whole life, and she couldn't give up sports that easily. In her childhood years, she used to be a soccer player and medalist, and she was excited when, in the year she spent at boarding school, she was picked to be a goalkeeper in the school's team. Right now however, she decided to try something new, because she wanted to do something serious, that maybe, one day, could even provide a job for herself, in case she did not manage to become a musician, the way she had always wished. So, despite the fact that she had only mounted a horse a couple of times in her entire life, in the second semester of school, she decided to also enroll in the Lehigh Riding Academy. That was going to be fun, she thought. She knew that starting something like that was insane, but she was always up for a challenge and ready to learn. And if she was not going to like, she was simply going to give it up and focus only on music.

Earlier that day, she had brought no less than two suitcases and two bags to the dorm she had been assigned. At least for the moment, she was not going to have a roommate, so she had the closet only for herself (thank God!). And because she was only going to start classes the next day, she decided to hit the downtown bar that night. Normally, before leaving for boarding school, she would have quickly called one of her best friends to join her. Sadly, she had also done that now, but no one had picked up their phone. When she had left the city, Ava had suddenly stopped talking to anyone here, so she couldn't say that she hadn't understood her friends' reaction. Putting on a casual, yet rather hot outfit, she walked into the pub and headed straight to the bar. She had never been there by herself, but it seemed like there really was a start for anything. She climbed on one of the tall bar stools, then glanced at the barman. "White Russian, please," she ordered, then sighed for herself. This was not who Ava Keys was. She was not the girl to stay alone at a bar and get drunk because none of her friends liked her anymore. She had to change something but, for the first time in her life, she didn't know how to do it.

looks.

You're better than the best; oh, you make me smile

Honestly, he probably shouldn't have too much to drink. He did have a job, after all. And he liked what he did. It was probably best that he kept it. Even though he looked at rules as more of guidelines, he liked his work, so he'd have to limit himself. There was just no other way around it. Unfortunately, reality would be reality, no matter how hard he attempted to defy it and ignore it whenever such an opportunity presented itself.

Jackson rested back on the bar with his elbows, a tall neck bottle of his usual beer in hand as he watched the crowd and the screens that were constantly on to whatever horseback event the town could get their eyes on. Tonight it was a live broadcast of a few horse races being held. The two year old horses were currently running, and Jackson was expecting three year olds to also make an appearance at some point in the broadcast, true to the usual order of racing events - youngest to oldest.

Sure, he was drinking alone, but there really hadn't been much else for him to do and he wasn't going to deny the chance for a little bit of simple unwinding. A little company probably wouldn't hurt, as he could imagine that it would come with a bit of conversation, but he also wasn't in desperate need of it. Still, it wouldn't hurt.

Taking a look over the patrons again, he noticed a young woman enter and head to the bar. At a cursory glance, she was simply another looking for a way to spend a few hours, but among the other chatty people and smiling faces, something seemed a little off, not that he was one to pry into a stranger's business. Especially a woman's. Everyone had their own problems, and it was none of his business to go sticking his nose where it didn't belong.

On the other hand, she really did seem to need some company, he noted as the barman set about getting her her drink. Never one for being shy, especially when there seemed to be an opportunity to help someone out, he decided it wouldn't hurt to ask what seemed to be bothering her. "What's your reason for poison on a night like this?" he asked her as he eased himself up onto the bar stool beside the blonde. He barely gave her much time to answer before he held out his free hand to her, "Jackson Wall," he introduced himself. "You seemed like you were a little lonely walking in and I figured you could use the company," he added to explain his sudden appearance, giving a small shrug along with the words and offering the stranger a small smile. "So, past, present, future, or more than one of the above?" Almost everyone had a reason, and when one seemed down on such a night, that reason was usually because something was amiss, and it usually turned out to be something somewhat major in one or more of the time periods he asked about.

Anyone who had seen Ava walking inside that bar had probably assumed that she had big plans for the night - she was either going to meet up with some friends for a night of fun or flirt the night away with the first available stranger that was going to show up on the horizon. And after all, why would have anyone thought differently? She was young, dressed as if she was simply going to a club in order to dance all night, her make-up was on and her hair was perfectly put into place as usually. Looking at herself in the mirror, even she had a hard time believing that she actually had no one to call in order to meet up for a chat and a drink. She had moved back to her hometown because she was feeling alone everywhere else, but now, she felt like she had never been so lonely in her entire life. She wanted her life back, but an unseen force, probably karma or something, was determined to give her a hard time doing so.

Prepared for the loneliest night she had ever faced, Ava was actually quite surprised when someone stopped by in order to change a few words with her. Astonishment could probably be read all over her features when she turned her huge blue eyes towards the stranger. When her gaze connected with his however, she had to admit that it was a pleasant surprise. Even though he was considerably older than she was, he was a handsome young man, and there was no way she could brush that off that easily. Not to mention the fact that the way he had approached her had made her feel unexplicably comfortable, despite the fact that she had never seen him before. But there was something about him that made her feel calm and relaxed, and that could be seen through the smile that had just made appearance on her reddish lips.

She was about to answer his question when he already introduced himself, which made her chuckle softly. "Hi, I'm Ava," she introduced herself as well, her cold fingers gently brushing his warm hand, maybe for a second too long. "Actually, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I could use the company, thank you," she smiled, gently moving her hand back to the glass of poison, as he had called it. "Honestly? All of them. A mistake of the past, affecting the present, making me wonder how the hell I am going to fix the future and make it a better place. And that kind of sucks, if you ask me," she chuckled, shrugging slightly. Sure, she was upset, but she couldn't be all sad and teary with a kind stranger - it was just not her style.

You're better than the best; oh, you make me smile

Jackson offered the young woman a smile as she returned the introduction, giving her some time to answer then since he'd been a little quick about connecting his previous questions when he joined her. When she thanked him, he simply shook his head a little. "Don't mention it," he told her, dismissing the thanks, "It's my pleasure. Besides, I don't think anyone should have to be totally alone. There's a difference between being in a crowd and actually feeling like you're with someone, after all," he said, resting one arm on the bar and then leaning on it.

Turning his attention back to her as she explained what was troubling her, he took another sip from his bottle before he set the drink on the bar and nodded in understanding of her situation. "Those ones always do tend to be tough," he agreed. But, not one to dwell on the negatives, he offered her another smile, "But I'm sure you'll find a way to get through it. If you ask me, you don't seem like the kind of person to let too much of that keep you down for long, if it isn't too bold of me to point it out," he told her.

She was actually really easy to talk to and be with, even though they'd only just started talking. It was nice, even though he hadn't come out looking for a conversation. Not wanting to sit on a potentially bad subject, however, he decided to ask her something else. "You new to the area? I'm not sure I've seen you around here before."

PostSubject: Re: take my breath away || Jackson   take my breath away || Jackson EmptyFri Mar 06, 2015 3:52 pm

Usually, Ava was outgoing, sociable and rather easy to talk to. She loved to meet new people and make new friends, and that could be observed in the way she used to connect to people, right from the moment she met them. She had good skills when it came to socializing and she was able to make people feel special most of the time. However, she could not say that this also applied to the moments when she didn't feel well. Usually, when she was going through rough times, she wouldn't meet with her friends and party, as most people did, but she would stay at home with a bottle of alcohol, a can of ice-cream and a bad movie. That night must have actually been a premiere for her, that she had actually taken the time to dress up and head to the nearest bar.

That was why she was rather surprised by the fact that she seemed to connect so well with this man who had come out of the blue. He was nice, kind and positively handsome, and he didn't seem to have approached her in order to flirt with her and try to get her into bed. He actually seemed interested in meeting her, hearing about her problems and maybe help her forget them for the night. Hearing his compliment, she couldn't help a shy, yet thankful smile from pulling on her red lips. "It is rather bold, but I like it, so you may keep complimenting me, I don't mind," she joked with a chuckle, shrugging lightly.

However, when he changed the topic of the conversation, she felt almost relieved. She didn't intend to talk about her personal problems that night, so maybe meeting a total stranger was exactly the thing she needed, in order to take her mind off things. "No... I mean, yes... Actually no... Kind of," she started, then gently laughed it off, leaning her forehead against her hand. "Not really. It's a long story, but I am going to make it shorter for you. I was born and raised here, but I left two years ago. And now I came back, less than a month ago. So technically, I am not new to the area, though I do feel like a total intruder," she chuckled again.

You're better than the best; oh, you make me smile

Jackson couldn't help but smile when he heard her say it was a little bold, but it was good news to hear that it wasn't too far. The last thing he'd wanted to do was come off as pushy or too nosy. "Well, I never was the most cautious sort, anyways, so serves me right for doing such a thing," he told her with a shrug.

If anything, Jackson had a habit for being social, even if it didn't seem like it on the surface. He was actually better with just a few people at a time more so than a crowd, but either way didn't bother him. Mainly, he simply liked to see others happy, and if he could have a part in why they were happy, that was all the better to him. Caution, on the other hand, was often something he forgot to bring with him, and he was perfectly alright with leaving it behind. A little bold in maybe a situation too many for normal standards? Sure, absolutely. With that said, he typically put shame right beside caution, but he wasn't absolutely a jerk, either. He did things wrong just like anyone else, and he was perfectly capable of owning up to those situations as well. For the night, however, he was glad he hadn't given the girl the wrong impression. She seemed like she could use a friend at least for the night, and he was more than happy to be that friend.

He listened respectfully as she explained her situation, in sort, with the area and her feelings about being back. "I hardly think you're intruding on anyone around here," he told her. "But I can see where you're coming from. It must be different after being gone for two years," he added with a small shrug that showed he understood even though he hadn't exactly been in her situation. "I wouldn't be too worried about it though. I've been around here long enough to know it isn't an uptight area. I'd even go as far as saying almost anyone could find a home here, so long as they're respectful enough to everyone. Kind of an everybody knows everybody situation going on around here, and if you're new, we won't say no if you've given us no reason to. That'd just be mean."

When she heard the man's even bolder response, Ava couldn't help a slight smirk from pulling on her crimson lips. It seemed like he was not only a great company for the night, but also a handsome man able to spark her interest in one way or another. He seemed to be a nice combination of a funny, friendly guy and a confident man who knew how to achieve what he wanted in life, and that was rather intriguing. "That's not a bad thing. It's no fun being cautious all the time," she replied, her big blue eyes staring for the first time right into his piercing brown eyes.

After taking another sip from her cocktail, Ava straightened her back and adjusted her black hat. She was a universe full of secrets, especially for the people in the small community they lived in. She was a mystery and there were many unknown things about her persona, most of them revolving around her departure, as well as her return to the town. Rumours travelled fast over there, and she wouldn't have been surprised to hear all types of things whispered behind her back. When she left, she had a big mouth that always got her into trouble, while now, she was only trying to re-connect with the people she had once called 'friends' and make new acquaintances. These were all aspects of her life that people often refused to understand. "I think that's the thing that bothers me the most around here - the fact that everyone knows everyone. Rumours spread fast, people talk... But I'm sure you know what I mean."
